What woke you up?
by Israel Ricky Gonzales inin march of 2014, i was a very active jw, a ministerial servant, gave a public talk, was an attendant for the memorial, and one of 4 cleaning captains for an international convention of 40,000+ attendees.
so what woke me up?
an innocent comment from a co-worker about the candice conti court case rang a bell that could not be unrung.

When I was studying, in the beginning I was encouraged to ask any questions I wanted. By the time we finished studying the book, I was then advised to be careful with my questions because questioning the gb was the same as questioning God. I didn't want anything to do with a religion that equated their leaders with God while preaching that everyone else should be humble. I'm still considered the "worldly" one in my husbands family. It's been that way for almost 30 yrs and I'm ok with that. -

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...
by Calebs Airplane inwithin the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.
however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.
he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

I know I was told "questioning the gb is the same as questioning God". In other words.... no one dares to question the gb! I thought I also saw that statement in a publication as well but have no way to search for it. -

I think I heard a few years ago that jws were told to stop saying "the society" and "the new order" because they sounded too cult like. My husband and his family say "old system of things" and "the new system of things" frequently. -

GB member Geoffrey Jackson is lying!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inokay, i know the royal commission hasn't started yet.
but i'm confident enough that he will be telling some whoppers.
so i thought i'd be the first to get a thread started for something that will begin... very soon now!.

He claims he has no knowledge of BCG's case? Does he expect everyone to believe the WT Lawyers have not even mentioned the case to him???? -

I've always wondered why there is so much emphasis put on the #'s for the Memorial. Many attend the Memorial but don't attend any other meetings for the rest of the year. Same thing happens in churches for Easter and Christmas. The parking lots are packed, but only twice a year. -

If you could do anything publicly to get JWs out
by cognac inand money wasn't an issue, what would it be?
-

If money was no object I would approach the GB members and tell them to name their price. Every man has their price right? The money is theirs but first they have to post videos on their website divulging all the weird stuff in the jw history and admit that it all is a scam. They have to come clean on everything and then disappear with the promise of never to start any new religions ever again. I think I would have to break out and sing that old gospel song "OH HAPPY DAY"!!

Yes, Blondie that is how I understood it. Like it was an honor that I didn't deserve until I was baptized. I was also told that I couldn't go out in FS until baptized. I've since been told by others though that isn't true. -

Maybe it's more comfortable if you grew up a jw, but for me being an outsider it felt and sounded very strange. When I was studying they explained that I really wouldn't be a true sister until I was baptized. Little did they know I was fine with that. My fleshly (yep that is another weird one) sisters are my true sisters.
I agree with the others that posted it's a control/cult term.

I wasn't able to listen to the entire interview, however, what I heard was very interesting and informative. He is a former cult member (moonies) and his family was able to get him out. He spoke about several different cults and the methods they use to manipulate their followers.
